This week’s Kerre's Book Choices review is:
Title: Cut and Run
Author: Alix Bosco
Oh, it was such fun playing spot-the-Kiwi-celeb in this cracking thriller from Alix Bosco. A rugby star is found dead, murdered while making love to a beautiful woman. Mikky St Clair is a gorgeous media tart, famous for being famous and for her conquests. Sound like anyone you might have seen in the social pages? Anna Markunas is a legal researcher, employed by the prime suspect’s defence team to uncover anything that will get Kamal Fifita off the hook. But Anna has her own problems. She is recently widowed, her son is a recovering P addict and her married daughter is pregnant with a child she can’t afford to have. Then a thug turns up and threatens her; Kamal Fifita’s young brother rings her in the middle of the night for help; and Anna finds herself in the middle of a nightmare she doesn’t understand. The action - and there’s plenty of it - takes place around the streets of Auckland and in the wilds of Coromandel, and if a helicopter-versus-kayak battle seems a little far-fetched, I’m willing to go along for the ride. Apparently, this is the first in a series featuring Anna and her mates, and I’m looking forward to the second.
