If you ask the home staging companies, they would certainly be saying “yes” and there is some data that suggests that it can add value to the sale price and also lessen the days on market. So is it worth while? I think in some cases definitely yes. Certainly if a house has no furniture, it must be home staged unless it is being sold as a potential re-development site. Bare rooms look small and very few people can imagine what the rooms would look like furnished. You just have to look on the internet and see some of the shocking examples of homes and apartments being sold unfurnished. They look, unloved, uncared for and abandoned.
But not all house need home staging, some are perfect just they way they are. I am not a fan of totally de-personalising a house, I believe homes have a sole, and part of that sole, are the people who live in the house. So if you don’t want to home stage your property what can you do to give your home that beautiful well presented look? If your furniture needs updating or refurbishment, then now is the perfect time to do that before selling. You might want to engage an interior designer to help you co-ordinate fabrics and colours that will work well with your existing home and your new home. Having a professional assist you, ensures that the overall look will be polished and this way you are adding value to your existing home and taking it with you when you leave. Upgrading bed linen and towels is another great way you can do this, a beautifully dressed bed certainly enhances a room and adds an emotive element. Pot plants add life to any room and some new accessories, like candles, vases and pieces of art add the finishing touches.
If you think you need to get the home stage professionals in, then shop around, there are plenty of companies providing this service. Check out the properties they have dressed by visiting open homes. They often have a distinct style and you may prefer one company’s style over the others. Make sure you get quotes as they can vary between companies and check the number of installation weeks included and weekly costs should you wish to extend the contract period.
Certainly a beautifully presented home is more appealing to any purchaser and home staging or home styling can certainly add some value and you will be a proud to seeing your home marketed.
