First thing first visit your nearest police station and report it missing. You will need a police report before you can be issued a new passport. Take photo ID (such as your driver’s license) and your passport details, including passport number.
If you need to obtain your passport number, call the New Zealand Passport Office on 0800 225 050 (+64 4 474 8100 from outside New Zealand) . They will verify your identity over the phone and give you the passport number. (Open hours: Monday - Friday 8am-7pm, Saturday 9am-2pm.)
If it was a New Zealand passport, report it to the New Zealand Passport Office by email or ring 0800 225 050 (+64 4 474 8100 from outside New Zealand). If it was an overseas passport, contact your nearest consulate or embassy office.
