First Aid skills are vital if you want to help people and remain safe yourself as you do so.
- You should be able to recognise life-threatening situations,be able to offer vital assistance before more experienced help arrives if you can’t then you won’t be much use to somebody if they are having an emergency.
Doing a basic first aid course is a lot of fun and you will be amazed at what you actually remember and retain make sure that your course covers the minimums such as :
- Scene assessment
- Safety
- CPR
- Chest pain (e.g. heart attack)
- Dislocations
- How to use an AED (automated external defibrillator)
- Broken bones
- Burns
- Soft tissue injury
- Asthma
- Stroke
- Seizures
- Bleeding
The fact that you know first aid may save a life so what are you waiting for !
Bryan Ward is a Pan Auckland Community Constable across the Auckland area and has been a police officer for over 18 years.
