Once the tree goes up, the lights start twinkling, and the carols start playing, nothing gets us in the festive spirit more than watching our favourite Christmas movies.

Santa may be making a list, but so are we - and we've compiled a list of new and old Christmas flicks to keep you entertained this festive season.

• Best. Christmas. Ever! - Every year at Christmas, Jackie sends a cocky newsletter to her friend Charlotte. Fate brings Charlotte to Jackie's doorstep. As a result, Charlotte tries to prove that her friend's life is not perfect.

• The Santa Clause - By helping Santa Claus with a Christmas crisis, Scott unknowingly agrees to become the next Santa Claus. Now, he has to deal with a suspicious former wife while trying to keep his secret safe.
• The Santa Clauses: Season 2 - Tim Allen returns as the holly jolly Christmas icon for this mini-series continuation of The Santa Clause film franchise.
• Dashing Through the Snow - A social worker remembers the joy and magic of the Yuletide season after a Christmas Eve journey with his estranged daughter.
• A Christmas Carol (2009) - Ebenezer Scrooge, a miserly old moneylender is visited by three Christmas spirits on Christmas Eve, embarking on a journey of self-redemption to mend his miserly ways.
• Jingle All The Way - A father vows to get his son a Turbo Man action figure for Christmas. However, every store is sold out, and he must travel all over town and compete with everybody else in order to find one.
• Miracle on 34th Street (1994) - Susan, a child, and her mother, along with the help of a lawyer, must defend a man, Kris Kringle, from being institutionalised. In order to do so, they must prove that he is the real Santa Claus.
• The Muppet Christmas Carol - Scrooge, an old miser who dislikes Christmas, is visited by spirits who foretell his future and share secrets from his past and present, which helps change his view on life.
• The Nightmare Before Christmas - Jack Skellington, a being from Halloween Town, finds Christmas Town and is instantly enchanted. The situation becomes riveting when his obsession with Christmas leads him to abduct Santa Claus.

• Last Train To Christmas -On a Christmas Eve train home, a nightclub manager is thrown forward and backwards in time. He accidentally destroys his younger brother's life while reigniting his flagging career, and must go deeper into the past to save his brother's future.
• A Christmas Story Christmas - In this sequel to 1983's A Christmas Story, an adult Ralphie returns to his house on Cleveland Street to deliver his kids a magical Christmas like the one he had growing up.

• Gingerbread Miracle - A man and an old high school friend try to sell his uncle's business -- a Mexican bakery that's famous for magical gingerbread cookies that grant wishes.
• An Unexpected Christmas - A speech writer makes a deal with his ex-girlfriend to pretend they are a couple to save his family's Christmas. It's not long before both the ruse and their feelings catch up with them.
• Merry Liddle Christmas Baby - The Liddle family gathers to celebrate Christmas, but they are dealing with personal troubles, with one expecting their first child and another awaiting for adoption.
• My Christmas Family Tree - A woman meets long-lost relatives for the first time after discovering her family tree during the holidays.
• The Santa Stakeout - In order to solve holiday party heists, two police detectives go undercover and pose as newlyweds. They move into a vacant house next to the prime suspect, Mr Miller.
• Time For Them to Come Home for Christmas - A woman with amnesia catches a ride with her handsome nurse to investigate the only clue to her identity: a newspaper clipping for a Christmas festival with a cryptic invitation.
• Christmas Carole - A Christmas-hating businesswoman has earned a fortune, but it's made her a worse human being. The truth is that Carole is a monumentally mean person, positively Scrooge-like. And, just like Ebeneezer, needs a Christmas lesson.
• Elf - Buddy, a human, is raised amongst elves at the North Pole. When he discovers that he is not an elf, he travels to New York to search for his biological father.
