Princess Diana was one of the most photographed women in the world.
But yesterday, a never-before-seen portrait of the late royal was shown for the first time, ahead of its inclusion in a new exhibition at Kensington Palace.
Gazing into the distance, the People's Princess is the picture of regal poise in the black and white photo, which was taken by photographer David Bailey in 1988.
The picture was taken as part of a famous collection commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery but kept by the renowned photographer for his personal archive.
The Life Through a Royal Lens exhibition, which opens today, will feature some of the most iconic royal photographs ever taken over the last 200 years.
In addition to the photograph of Diana, another rare image shows Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip posing ahead of their Platinum wedding anniversary in November 2017.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also personally selected images of their three children taken in 2019 by Kate for the exhibition.
Alongside the professional shots, pictures of the royal family taken by members of the public will also go on display in the exhibition.
Life Through a Royal Lens opens at Kensington Palace from 4 March 2022 until October 30 2022 and is included in palace admission.
The beloved princess died at the age of 36 when the car she was travelling in crashed in a Paris tunnel on August 31, 1997.
