Coronavirus: New Zealand has 5 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 today

Today New Zealand has three new confirmed case of COVID in the community and two in managed isolation, says Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield.

The community case is linked to the current South Auckland cluster.

The two MIQ cases are children under the age of nine, who arrived in New Zealand from India.

There are six people in hospital, including two patients in intensive care.

There are eight previously reported cases who are considered to have recovered today.

That brings the total number of active cases to 112 in New Zealand, with 75 in the community.

The total number of confirmed cases in New Zealand since the pandemic began is 1,413.

After 18 days, Auckland moved into level 2 like the rest of the country on Sunday at 11.59pm, except with stricter rules on gatherings.

Gatherings for Aucklanders are restricted to 10 people at level 2, while a 50-person limit is in place for funerals and tangi.

The current alert level settings are in place until September 6 – Sunday - but Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is set to announce today whether the country stays with that status for longer.
