A star of The Chase has addressed claims that the quiz show is fixed - insisting he and his fellow 'chasers' really are that clever.
Mark Labbett, 51, who is tasked with demonstrating superior general knowledge to contestants on the popular quiz show, explained that measures are taken to make sure the game is all above board.
Mark, better known to fans as The Beast, said of sceptics who have suggested the chasers must cheat: 'I understand it because it comes down to one single thing: people don't believe we're that good.
'I understand... they care about the result. We care about the result. But I can guarantee you one thing, we are always trying our utter damnedest to win,' he told the Express.
Mark explained that solictors will check for 'possible breaches of law' in the questions, and said there's always an on-set adjudicator.
The chaser proved how seriously he takes his role on the show back in December, when he stormed off the set and punched a wall after losing £60,000 to three contestants.
He said the moment he knew he'd lost after giving a wrong answer 'hurt'.
The Chase is a race, where the players must avoid being caught by the chaser, a ruthless quiz genius determined to stop them winning at all costs.
If they stay ahead of the chaser, they share the pot of money but if they get caught, they lose the lot.
In The Chase, contestants must answer general knowledge questions and play the tactics right in order to get themselves into the Final Chase, with the opportunity to win a prize fund worth thousands of pounds.
But standing in the way is their common enemy, the chaser, who is described as an 'intellectually dominating and supremely self-confident quiz genius'.
Mark, who has starred on the show since 2009, also stars on the US version and is one of five chasers on the show in Australia, too.
