Meryl to trademark name

Meryl Streep is one of the most celebrated actresses' of her generation and has filed for an application to trademark her own name!

She filed the application with US Patent and the Trademark Office on the 22nd of January.

It asks that her name, Meryl Streep is trademarked for 'entertainment services', movie appearances, speaking engagementsand autographs!

She's won three Oscars, three Emmys and six Golden Globes during her 40-year long career.

It's not clear why Streep filed a trademark application but many celebrities trademark their names/catchphrases to protect their intellectual property, stop other people using them without permission, or to earn cash from products bearing their name.
