Geri Horner, Mel B and Emma Bunton joined forces for a secret music session at London's Deep Play studios this week, working on new material for the first time in almost two decades, but their bandmates Mel C and Victoria Beckham were noticeably absent.
Teasing the new project that the trio are working on, the Spice Girls' former producer Eliot Kennedy tweeted: "Now that was a day for the history books. Like 20 years had never happened. Proper friendship! Hit Song."
Mel also shared a picture of the group on Instagram and wrote: “And I say oohhhh LALA (sic).”
And she told the Daily Mirror: "It's funny, because back in the day people thought we had everything written for us but we've always written all our own songs. That's why we've won Ivor Novello awards and all sorts. Everything always comes from us, and to do something for our 20-year anniversary is the ultimate dream.
"If we do anything, we will be writing everything from scratch. We are all group texting and speak a lot."
A new single and album are expected to be released later this year, while the Spice Girls have been tipped to play a number of dates in both London and Los Angeles next year.
Meanwhile, former 'X Factor' judge Mel hinted at the new project during an interview on ITV's 'Lorraine' morning show on Wednesday (11.05.16).
She said: "It's funny because I landed yesterday and I met up with a few of my Spices and we were doing a big time reminisce.
"I had a nice little cup of tea with Geri and Emma last night and it was lovely.
"We definitely want to do something. It's a celebration of us still doing our thing 20 years on and still being supportive of each other, so we will see what happens. We are all just kind of in talks right now."
