Happy anniversary to these two lovebirds!
A marriage lasting a quarter of a century is an amazing feat for anyone — let alone two major celebrities. Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson have managed to keep their marriage alive through 27 years in the spotlight, two kids and even a battle with cancer.
"When we first looked at each other there was definitely a kind of (pointing to camera), 'Hey, this is the place!' I felt that anyway," Hanks told Entertainment Tonight at the Outfest Legacy Awards. "I think the end result is that we got married for all the right reasons."
"Most of our friends have been married longer than we have," the star continued. "We're kinda the young pups when it comes to it."
Even if he is a "young pup" when it comes to marriage, the actor isn't one to shy away from doling out marriage advice. Back in September last year the star told Extra that his key to a happy marriage is simple. "Don't be stupid. I think that anybody that gets married is partaking in an act of bravery." Hanks said. With more celeb couples breaking up now than making up, it's faith-restoring to see such an adorable couple still going strong.
In April 2015, the 58-year-old actress revealed she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy. Wilson is luckily cancer-free and didn't need radiation or chemotherapy. "You never know how your spouse is going to react in a situation like this," Wilson told the New York Times in May. "I was so amazed, so blown away by the care my husband gave me... who knew it would make you even closer?"
