Following months of speculation, Lady Gaga has officially signed on to star opposite Bradley Cooper in a remake of A Star Is Born, for which she'll write and perform original music, it was announced Tuesday by Warner Bros.
Cooper will make his directorial debut with the film, which he's also producing with Todd Phillips, among others.
A Star Is Born has been remade multiple times, including a 1976 version starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. The latest version will serve as Lady Gaga's debut as a studio lead.
Lady Gaga earned an Oscar nomination earlier this year for her moving song “Til it Happens to You,” from the documentary The Hunting Ground. The six-time Grammy winner recently starred on FX's American Horror Story, for which she won a Golden Globe.
Writing on Twitter, Gaga - real name Stefani Germanotta - said she was "elated" to be working with "brilliant visionary artist" Cooper.
In a statement, Warner Bros's Greg Silverman said "the world [was] in for a treat as these great artists craft an all new vision of A Star is Born."
According to Deadline, production on A Star is Born will begin early next year in California.
