Kate Middleton opens up about why she "terrifyingly" debuted her babies outside the Lindo Wing

Much to the delight of royal fans around the world, Kate Middleton and Prince William debuted all three of their children on the steps of the Lindo Wing at St Mary's Hospital in London, just hours after giving birth.

But while the couple smiled widely for the cameras on each occasion, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have never spoken out about how they felt during those three very historic moments.

That was until now.

Over the weekend, Catherine gave a rare and candid insight into her personal life when she appeared Giovanna Fletcher's parenting podcast Happy Mum, Happy Baby.

During the interview, the Duchess revealed that she was "terrified" when appearing outside the maternity wing.

"[It was] slightly terrifying I'm not going to lie," she said.

"It’s hard to compartmentalise the whole thing. Everyone had been so supportive, both William and I were really conscious that this was something that everyone was excited about and we're hugely grateful for the support that the public had shown us.

"Actually for us to be able to share that joy and appreciation with the public I felt was really important, but equally it was coupled with a newborn baby and inexperienced parents and the uncertainty about what that held so there was all sorts of mixed emotions."

The 38-year-old royal - who is mum to Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, four, and 21-month-old Prince Louis - also revealed that she doesn't have fond memories of being at St Mary's Hospital.

She said: "I was keen to get home because, for me, I had all the memories of being in hospital because of being sick so it wasn’t a place I wanted to hang around in. So, I was really desperate to get home and get back to normality."

Kate previously suffered from Hyperemesis Gravidarum - which causes extreme morning sickness - during all three of her pregnancies.
