Kelly Clarkson wows with bossa nova cover of George Michael's 'Careless Whisper'

Kelly Clarkson has paid tribute to the late George Michael.

Showcasing her extraordinary voice on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the American Idol winner belted out a bossa nova take on the Wham! musician's chart-topping 1984 single 'Careless Whisper'.

The 40-year-old pop star remained faithful to Michael's original jazzy version sonically and vocally, however her band Y'all utilised a soulful acoustic guitar in place of the song's signature saxophone riff.

Careless Whisper' was Michael's first solo single, but he actually co-wrote it with his former Wham! bandmate Andrew Ridgeley.

The single was released in August 1984, and unsurprisingly it reached number one in the UK and stayed there for three weeks.

It also topped the charts in 25 other countries and was later named Billboard's number-one song of 1985.
