Hot on the heels of Colin Firth and Amanda Seyfried saying they would return for a third Mamma Mia! film in a heartbeat, the film's director Ol Parker has now shared his thoughts.
While discussing his new movie Ticket to Paradise, Parker was asked about the possibility of a third instalment of the franchise.
To which he replied: "Judy Craymer, the genius producer behind the musical and the first two films, always plans for it to be a trilogy. That's all I can say.
"The first one made an enormous amount of money, and I think we made a fair amount too. I know that there is a hunger for a third, and I know that she has a plan. Wouldn't it be lovely?"
While the fate of the third film remains entirely unknown at this stage, Craymer - who produced both the feature films, as well as the original West End musical - previously revealed she would love the entire original cast, including Cher, Streep, Christine Baranski, Amanda Seyfried, Colin Firth and Julie Walters, to return for a third film.
Both Mamma Mia! films were huge box office hits, with the 2008 film and its 2018 sequel earning just over $1billion worldwide between them.
Craymer created Mamma Mia! after securing the rights to ABBA’s music following her working relationship with Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus on Chess.
