It has been eight months since Nicole Kidman last saw her 80-year-old mum Janelle, who resides in Sydney, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But now the actress has a reason to celebrate, after being reunited with her mother over the weekend.

Taking to Instagram, the 53-year-old Moulin Rouge actress shared an emotional picture of the two embracing after they had appropriately quarantined themselves.

Alongside the photo, the Australian actress wrote: "Feels so good to be able to hug my mum!

"It's been 8 months. I missed her 80th birthday but I'm here now. Love you Mumma."

Previously speaking about their time apart, Nicole said: "I have my immediate family here, but I don't have my extended family, who are so much a part of me.

"I can't touch them. So many people are in exactly the same position. So many people right now are going, 'When do I see my family again?'"

Nicole and her husband Keith Urban spent the months beforehand quarantining at their home in Tennessee.

The couple and their daughters Sunday and Faith reportedly travelled to Australia so Nicole could begin work on her upcoming show Nine Perfect Strangers.

The family self-quarantined for the mandatory two weeks in their home in Southern Highlands before visiting with Nicole's mum.

Nicole and Keith caught some backlash for being allowed to spend the quarantine at their home while other citizens haven't been so lucky.
