Congratulations are in order for Olympic gold medalist Caitlin Regal!

The canoeist has announced she and her husband Nick are expecting their first baby together.

Taking to social media, the recently retired Olympian shared a sweet video featuring a collection of photos from the past year of her life since getting married at Piha beach waterfall.

Alongside the clip, she wrote: "One year married to you and more in love than ever. We have another little surprise for you all if you wait to the end."

The video ended with a sonograph of the couple's baby.

The 29-year-old later thanked well-wishers after her big announcement and promised to share the baby's sex and tips on all things exercise, health and wellbeing with a different spin over the coming weeks.

Regal finished her career on a high, winning gold at the Tokyo Olympics in August with Lisa Carrington in the K2 500m.
