Phil Collins reveals he's no longer able to play drums at all due to declining health

Legendary singer Phil Collins left fans buzzing with excitement last year after he announced he was planning on getting behind the drum kit again for Genesis' upcoming reunion tour.

However, in an interview with the BBC over the weekend, the 70-year-old revealed he can "barely" hold a drum stick in his hand now because of deteriorating health.

When asked if he's able to do any sort of drumming at the moment, Collins responded with the devastating update: "No.

"I'm kind of physically challenged a bit which is very frustrating because I'd love to be playing up there with my son," he said.

Collins essentially retired from playing the drums in concert in 2009 after he suffered nerve damage in his hands following a dislocated vertebra in his upper neck, making it impossible for him to play or even stand on his own for long periods of time.

He's since left drum duties to his son Nic Collins and has performed seated for most of his recent shows.

Alongside Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford will reunite for shows across the UK and Ireland, marking the band's first time performing together since the last Genesis show in 2007.

The lineup will also feature longtime touring bassist Daryl Stuermer.

Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett will not be taking part in the reunion.
