Prince Harry will be in attendance for the coronation of his father, King Charles III, but his wife Meghan Markle will remain in the United States with their children.
In a statement from Buckingham Palace on Wednesday afternoon (UK time), a palace spokesperson said that “Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service,” and that “The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”
Meghan will be staying in California with the couple's two children to celebrate Prince Archie's fourth birthday which is also on May 6.
King Charles and his partner, the soon-to-be Queen Camilla, will arrive at Westminster Abbey via a procession in a horse-drawn carriage, with a group of about 15 working royals expected to follow behind them.
While Harry will not have any formal role due to no longer being a working royal, William will play a prominent part in the coronation, with Prince George, aged nine, also confirmed as one of the king’s pages of honour for the ceremony.
It is not known if Harry will attend any of the other coronation-related events across the long weekend, including concerts, which the royal family are expected to attend.
Harry will also be absent from the Buckingham Palace balcony when his father, Camilla, Prince William, Princess Kate and their children appear, having returned to the palace after the coronation service, conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury.
