Prince William walked in his wife’s steps yesterday as he visited the Roman ruins of Jerash above Jordan.

William had a bit of a chuckle when he spotted the giant 2ft by 3ft printing of the picture that was taken at the same spot about 30 years ago.

“Michael’s looking very smart in his flip-flops,” he said.

“Need to come back with the family for this shot.”

It is a little-known fact that Kate Middleton and her family spent two years in Jordan for her father’s work.

They moved in 1984 when Kate was two, and her sister, Pippa, just eight months old.

Their father Michael, a British Airways manager worked in Jordan for almost three years before they all moved back to England in 1986.

Samia Khouri, the director of museums at Jordan’s Department of Antiquities, explained William’s joy when he saw the picture.

She said: “He was very surprised when he saw the photo. He did not expect that.

“But that’s why he was here, because he wanted to take a photo at the same spot where Kate was photographed.”
