Today marks one year since legendary crooner Tony Bennett passed, just two weeks shy of his 97th birthday.

Now, a clip of the late singer with his good friend Lady Gaga is making the rounds on social media.

The heartwarming clip is from when the pair reunited for Tony’s 95th birthday and he immediately recognising the Bad Romance singer.

Tony was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2015, and at this point was struggling to recognise his friends and family. In the weeks leading up to the gig he hadn’t recognised Gaga, however once he took the stage at Radio City Music Hall, he excitedly told the crowd, “Woah, Lady Gaga.”

You can see the shock and utter joy on Gaga’s face when she hears her name being called.

Later, in an interview with Anderson Cooper for 60 Minutes, she told the presenter that they’d been rehearsing together but that he had not referred to her by name.

She said, “For the first couple of weeks that I saw Tony since COVID, he called me ‘sweetheart,’ but I wasn’t sure he knew who I was.”

“That’s the first time that Tony said my name in a long time,” she continued, adding: “I had to keep it together because we had a sold-out show and I have a job to do. But I’ll tell you, when I walked out on that stage and he said, ‘It’s Lady Gaga,’ my friend saw me. It was very special.”

Many of the pair's fans have been rewatching the clip since Tony’s passing, with one fan writing on Twitter, “Watched the @60Minutes segment of @andersoncooper covering Tony Bennett's last musical performances with Lady Gaga - and his undying love for music - while battling AD."

Another thanked Tony for his friendship with Gaga, writing, “Never forget how kind and loving tony bennett was to lady gaga when the whole world turned against her. Not only to her but to many other younger artists. Such a rare talent.”

“…thank you Tony Bennett for everything you gave the world and for being the greatest friend anyone ever was to Gaga", another fan tweeted.

Tony is survived by his wife Susan, and his four children.
