Sesame Street star Bob McGrath has passed away

Sesame Street star Bob McGrath has passed away at the age of 90.

McGrath was best known as the first human star of the iconic children's programme.

Taking to social media, his family announced his death today.

"Our father Bob McGrath, passed away today. He died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family," they wrote.

A cause of death was not revealed.

After making his first appearance on Sesame Street's pilot episode in 1969, McGrath went on to appear in 47 seasons along with various standalone films, holiday specials and video games.

He made his final cameo in 2017.

McGrath is survived by his wife Ann, their five children and three grandchildren.
