There were reports of eight shots fired in the carpark.

According to witnesses, the shooter was wearing a mask.

"I was parking my car and I heard seven or eight shots and I heard screams," witness Raja Khallous said.

"I saw a guy on the ground and they were trying to revive him. I saw a guy in a pool of blood. There was a one girl on the ground and what I thought was a security guard. It was scary. I never thought that it would happen somewhere like here - you just never think."

A witness having coffee outside a nearby cafe said she heard the commotion and everybody got up and started walking away.

There are unconfirmed reports that the man who died was Walid Ahmad, a known standover man with a previous manslaughter conviction, according to The Australian.

It is believed Mr Ahmad is connected to a fatal shooting at panelbeaters business where one man, Abdullah El Masri, was shot dead.

He is also believed to be involved in a number of crimes dating back to 2002.

The Daily Telegraph is reporting that he has been on the run since the a fatal shooting at Condell Park. Early reports said a man aged about 40 went into cardiac arrest.

The previous shooting at the panelbeaters left one man, Safwan Charbaji, dead. Another, Abdullah El Masri, was left in a critical condition after being shot in the face.

The shooting happened on the afternoon of April 9 in Condell Park, a suburb of Bankstown.

At the time, authorities said the men are known to police.

Officers from Bankstown Local Area Command were called to the carpark of the shopping centre on Rickard Road, Bankstown at about 11.50am.

There were at least six ambulances and a dozen police cars at the scene and pictures show paramedics putting a man on a stretcher.

A crime scene has been established, which will be examined by detectives and forensic specialists.
