The Breakers have missed the chance to finish the Australian national basketball season on top spot, going down 81-77 to the Cairns Taipans in Auckland.
The Breakers were dominated through the bulk of the encounter, and scores were locked at 40-40 at halftime, before Cairns ran away with the game to secure the minor premiership.
Breakers captain Mika Vukona says their effort levels were extremely disappointing.
"We were just all on different wavelengths today and hopefully we can get that rectified in our first practice back.
"Not in the game, but in the very first practice back ahead of either Thursday or Friday's first game."
The Breakers will finish the regular season in second spot, and will most likely meet the Adelaide 36ers in their semifinals series.
The first game of the series is due to be played at Vector Arena this Thursday.
