Personal desperation for Rhys Carter to finally win an Australian basketball league title.
The Breakers can win their fourth championship in the last five years with victory in game two of the Finals series against Cairns in Auckland today.
Carter's lost the championship-deciding series for the last two seasons with different clubs.
The Breakers guard says it's a massive motivator.
"Two years in a row of feeling that disappointment and the emptiness of walking off the court, losing the last game."
"I still remember it like it was yesterday. It's something I really want to avoid."
Carter says they're not prepared to accept the work's been done yet.
"No one, by any stretch of the imagination, thinks this is over."
"It's a tough series against a great team who's been on top for the entire season."
"We know it's far from over."
Taipans coach Aaron Fearne says their record in New Zealand this year is helping them prepare.
"We've done it twice this year, we've beat them on their home court so we're going to have to play our best game of the year."
Play begins at the North Shore Events Centre at three o'clock.
