Aaron Gate's fallen just short of a medal after a gusty display in the final discipline of the omnium at the Track Cycling World Championships in Paris.
Gate started the points race in 12th place overall, but stormed up the leaderboard by lapping the field four times.
But, he left his run too late, finishing in fifth overall and eight points off bronze.
Rushlee Buchanan's push for a medal in the scratch race has fallen just short after she was swallowed up following an attempted breakaway.
Gate says he'll take a lot from the effort.
He says it's still disappointing to not be at the top of the podium, and now he just has to work on the improvements.
Earlier, Sam Webster qualified for the quarter-finals of the men's sprint but Eddie Dawkins failed to progress while Dylan Kennett finished 10th in the men's individual pursuit.
