Ireland's knocked Zimbabwe out of contention in the Cricket World Cup while keeping its own playoff hopes alive.

Ireland's scored a tense five-run win over their African opponents, dismissing them for 326 in the chase of 332 for victory.

Brendan Taylor rescued Zimbabwe after they lost four early wickets, scoring 121 off just 91 balls, but his heroics weren't quite enough to keep their quarter-final hopes alive.

Earlier, Pakistan scored a gripping 29-run win over South Africa at Eden Park after bowling the Proteas out for 202.

Chasing a revised target of 232 from 47 overs, South Africa faltered, with Mohammad Irfan, Rahat Ali and Wahab Riaz all claiming three wickets each for Pakistan.

Pakistan coach Waqar Younis is hailing the bowling effort.

"We bowled extremely well. We were right on top of the game and we bowled with gas and some real pace and real purpose."

The results see Pakistan and Ireland both join South Africa on six points in pool B, with India leading the way on eight points.
