New Zealand has its first medal of the Paris Olympics after the Black Ferns won gold in the Rugby Sevens this morning.

The Black Ferns are back-to-back champions, beating Canada 19-12 to claim the gold medal.

Speaking to Sky Sports before the medal ceremony, Sarah Hirini says she's "bloody sore" but "so happy".

"I don't even know how to put that into words. Literally what this crowd has done for us over the last few days, what Aotearoa does for us on a daily, we feel you, we hear you, we see you. This one's for you guys. We're bringing that gold medal back. Leshgo."

Sarah Hirini, Portia Woodman-Wickliffe and Tyla King all pick up a third Olympic medal as they have been part of every Olympic campaign since Rio.

While along with that trio, Michaela Blyde, Stacey Waaka, Risi Pouri-Lane and Alena Saili all get a second gold.

New Zealand 19 (Risaleeana Pouri-Lane, Michaela Blyde, Stacey Waaka tries; Pouri-Lane, Tyla King conversions)

Canada 12 (Chloe Daniels, Alysha Corrigan tries; Daniels conversion)

Halftime: 12-7

The USA women's team claimed the bronze medal earlier this morning in the sevens tournament, beating Australia 14-12.
