Why Meghan's child won't be a Prince or Princess

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced Meghan Markle's pregnancy to the royal family on Friday, and publically last night.
The news of another royal child just days after a royal wedding has sent fans into a frenzy.
Harry and Meghan received a similar response to when Kate and William made their announcements for Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
But the newlywed's children won't share the same title as William and Kate's children.

As with most royal rules, this one dates back over 100 years and was made by Britain's King George VI.
Imogen Lloyd Webber, and ABC royal contributor explains: “At the time, there were revolutions happening across Europe and many monarchies collapsing,” she says. “So George V wanted a slimmed-down monarchy, kind of like Prince Charles is pushing for now.”
In simpler terms, it means that only the eldest living son (George) of the oldest son (William) of the oldest son (Charles) of the monarch (Elizabeth) will receive such a title.

A few years ago the Queen gave William and Kate's children special dispensation so that they could become HRHs. She issued a decree updating the old rule so that all of Prince William's children - no matter their gender.
This was a very rare occurrence and according to Imogen, this will not happen again in Harry and Meghan's case.
