2/19 When he found an old motor oil barrel, he decided to give it a second chance at life! He began the barrel's transformation by first giving it a deep and thorough cleaning.
-
3/19
3/19 To do this, he filled the barrel with sand to absorb any remaining oil. Next, he added soap and water, then rigorously shook it. After letting it soak overnight — and letting it dry out thoroughly — you would never guess it had ever held oil.

4/19 When it was clean, he got to sanding. After many passes with the sander and a steel brush, the barrel was shiny and paint-free.
-

5/19 The next step was to open up the barrel. To do this, he first marked out his cuts with painter's tape.
-
6/19
6/19 With some lubricant and a jigsaw, he made his cuts.
-
7/19
7/19 The jigsaw cut through very easily.
-
8/19
8/19 To his surprise, the cuts were very clean.
-
9/19
9/19 When the cutting was done, he took both barrel pieces and sprayed them with heat-resistant paint.
-
10/19
10/19 As that dried, he cut some pieces of wood for the grill's body.
-
11/19
11/19 He then began to build the frame.
-
12/19
12/19 Once the body was built, he sanded and stained it.
-
13/19
13/19 Finally, it was time to lay the barrel in. It fit very nicely.
-
14/19
14/19 He then hinged the two barrel pieces back together. He also added a steel handle for easy lifting and closing.
-
15/19
15/19 He drilled quite a few air intake holes around the body of the barrel.
-
16/19
16/19 Next, it was time to lay in the grills.
-
17/19
17/19 Finally, his new oil barrel grill was complete!
-
18/19
18/19 After taking it for a test drive with some lamb chops, he was ready to go.

19/19 What do you think of this unique grill? Would you like to have this in your backyard, or do you prefer something store-bought?
