Sir Paul McCartney has snagged a rather nice New York penthouse apartment for a cool $US15.5 million ($19.78 million).
Considering the apartments specs – it comes with a marble staircase, gold bathroom trimmings and a crystal chandelier – it's no surprise the penthouse was sold to rock royalty.
The former Beatle member and his wife, Nancy Shevell, bought the duplex at 1045 Fifth Avenue, New York, Page Six reported.
The elegant apartment is in a modest building but has excellent Central Park views.
Having recently been described as a "glamorous 1960s time capsule with a dash of Hollywood" by The New York Times, the Fifth Avenue penthouse is the perfect fit for a golden age rocker.
The 10-room apartment takes up the 15th and 16th floors of the building, and the floor-to-ceiling windows offer commanding views of the city.
Complete with wrap-around balconies, the rooms with the best views are the library and living room on the first floor and the master bedroom suite on the second, which all have views of Central Park.
The penthouse comes with five bedrooms and six bathrooms, which include a maid's quarters near the kitchen with a separate bathroom.
It also has a single room on the third floor, with access only by a small spiral staircase on the second floor, which makes for a perfect teenage bedroom escape or quiet study.
