Toni:
Dear journal,
I was at an event this week with a group of 40 plus women and the topic of beauty standards emerged. It was discussed and debated why so many young people particularly women are getting things like lip fillers and botox at SUCH at extremely young age (many are now starting in their teens and early 20s which is so hard to get your head around).
We landed on the need for young people to have a focus outside of their looks to keep them busy and to take the pressure off always having to look good, and two to have better role models. That’s where I think the Olympic games can have a profound impact on our young people. They’re so focused on achieving their dream they don’t have time to worry about whether their lips are full enough.
In the Kiwi contingent, the list is impressive. People like sprinter Zoe Hobbs, pole vaulter Eliza McCartney, paddler Lisa Carrington, our Sevens teams, our sailors. These are the role models we should be getting our kids to look up too, and the next two weeks is the perfect time to be inspired.

Jase:
Hi journal,
It's always nice to have a break, enjoy a sleep in or two and some wonderful family time during the school holidays. But, it's always really nice to come back to work.
Yes, the 3:30am alarm stung a wee bit on Monday, but it also reminded me about what I'm lucky to get to do, with the people I get to do it with.
People like our Producer Rosie who has a new song out today (Google Rosie Teese), and Toni who has juggled work, sports, a young family, MC-ing functions, school visits and so many other things this week.
When you listen to the radio, you hear a few songs, someone talking between them, a handful of different voices on the ads and maybe a newsreader or two. But, the truth is, there are so many incredible people pulling the strings, oiling the cogs, stoking the fires, sharpening our focus and literally keeping us on the air - and whenever we swing the studio door open and I see our incredible little team - and it IS a little team - I know how lucky I am.
It's not so much about the job (which I've always loved doing), it's about the people I get to do it with. And, on Monday, one of our team mates rejoins us and it'll be so good to have Sam back. I know our complaints department has been really quiet lately - so that'll change. And I've even missed his diet chat, his workout breakdowns and his flatule... No ... No I haven't missed that.

See what Sam's been up to on his travels here!Â
