John Rowles sings Cheryl Moana Marie on a TV special

John Rowles' number one hit ‘Cheryl Moana Marie’ celebrates its 50th birthday this week. The song – which helped propel him to fame and sold a million copies worldwide – was a tribute to his sister and hit the top of the NZ charts on 8 May, 1970. This version was recorded live for a 1976 television special.
