So what's that in dog years?

We’ve always heard that in order to convert your dog’s age to “dog-years” the simple equation is to multiply your dog’s age in “human years” by seven.

Well now, scientists say they have come up with a more accurate way to determine how old your dog is.

Researchers at the University of California, San Diego, examined dog DNA to see how quickly dogs age, and found that this is the correct formula for calculating dog years: Using a scientific calculator, enter your dog’s age, then press ‘In’. Multiply the result by 16, then add 31.

Using that formula, a two-year old dog is 42, a five-year-old dog is almost 57, and a ten-year-old is 67.8.

While this method might not be completely accurate for every breed, it is believed to be a much more accurate way of determining your dog’s ‘human’ age than the old, unscientific “7-years” rule.
