Disney has just released the highly anticipated trailer for Moana 2

Over the weekend, Disney released the highly anticipated trailer for Moana 2.

The sequel to the beloved 2016 animated hit, Moana 2 follows Moana as she heads out on an epic journey into the far seas of Oceania after receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors.

Moana 2 was originally supposed to be a Disney+ TV series however, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced earlier this year that it instead would become a feature film because he was so impressed with the footage.

Cast wise we know that Auliʻi Cravalho will be returning as Moana, Dwayne Johnson as Maui, Temuera Morrison as Tui (Moana’s dad) Nicole Scherzinger as mum Sina and of course, Alan Tudyk as Heihei... the rooster.

We don't know much else about the cast yet, but we do know that co-writer Taika Waititi and songwriter Lin Manuel Miranda are not returning. 

Moana 2 will be available to watch in New Zealand cinemas from November 28.
