'Fairytale of New York' is one of the most iconic Christmas songs.

The Pogues's original version has been covered over and over and charts year after year, this year racing up the charts after Shane MacGowan's tragic death.

One of our favourite covers of it is George Michael and Catherine Tate's surprise duet during the 2007 Christmas special of The Catherine Tate Show.

George Michael guest starred in the final episode of the series, playing himself opposite Catherine as the Irish nurse Bernie.

Ahead of George's cameo, Bernie is warned by a colleague against making a spectacle of herself at the Christmas karaoke like she did last year and told she is not to bring any patients to the party.

She slumps off and starts singing Wham's Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go, disturbing a patient behind a curtain who turns out to be... George Michael, who asks her to "shut the f**k up!"

They chat briefly before Bernie invites George Michael to sing a duet at the Christmas party, which he not-so-politely declines.

To everyone's surprise, later at the party, George walks out at the start of Bernie's performance.

George Michael has become synonymous with Christmas due to Wham's 1984 hit 'Last Christmas' becoming a fan favourite, and George himself tragically passing away on Christmas Day, 2016.

Enjoy!
