New Zealand has an annual Wiener Dog Derby - and it is less than a month away!

The shortest, longest and fastest event of the year is back!

It turns out New Zealand has an official Wiener Dog Derby and it is returning to The Flying Moa in Auckland's Mount Wellington for it's 6th annual morning of racing, costumes and cuteness overload.

Registrations are open now for miniature and standard dachshunds.

Plus, there's a race for wannabe wieners (other small breeds or doxie mixes).

Even if your four-legged friend isn't racing, they can still enter the costume parade or just spectate.

This year, the goal is to set a record for the largest group of dachshunds in New Zealand at one time, so be part of the history books!

Don't have a furry friend? Spectators welcome - get in early for the best views of the race track.

The Wiener Dog Derby 2022 will take place on Saturday 17 September.
