2001's Bridget Jones, based on Helen Fielding's novels, was one of the biggest romcoms of the '00s, and the franchise of three movies made over $800 million at the box office.
Now, Bridget Jones is back on the dating scene in the fourth instalment of the series, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.
A new trailer, which you can watch above, has been released and shows Bridget (Renée Zellweger) as a single mum of two following the death of her partner Mark Darcy.
Colin Firth returns as Darcy, making two brief appearances in the trailer but it is unclear if the film uses old footage of him or he returned for flashback scenes, while Hugh Grant and Emma Thompson are back as Daniel Cleaver and Doctor Rawlings.
During an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Hugh Grant said, “As well as being extremely funny, it's very, very sad.”
He added, “It’s actually a very good and moving script, and I say that as someone who is horrid about scripts."
Jim Broadbent and Gemma Jones are also returning as Bridget's parents, and Sarah Solemani, Sally Phillips, Shirley Henderson, James Callis and Celia Imrie as Bridget's friends.
The first Bridget Jones movie, Bridget Jones's Diary, was released in 2001 with Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason releasing in 2004. There was then a 12-year gap before Bridget Jones's Baby was released in 2016.
Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy is set for release in New Zealand on 13 February 2025.
