Today, we’re celebrating Sir Elton John’s 78th birthday with a throwback to one of his most unexpected (and hilarious) performances.

Back in '97, during An Audience With Elton John, the Rocketman himself was faced with a bizarre challenge. Actor Richard E. Grant handed him an oven manual and asked him to turn it into a song—on the spot.

With a star-studded audience watching, including Cher, Robbie Williams, Ewan McGregor, and Stephen Fry, Elton laughed at the absurdity of the request but couldn’t resist the challenge. After a few moments of musical genius, he delivered a melody that only he could create—proving once again why he's one of the greatest musicians of all time.
