Elderly man goes viral after leading Timaru police on a "low-speed" chase with mobility scooter

It's not something you see every day, but on the streets of Timaru, a bizarre police pursuit was captured on camera with a man riding a mobility scooter.

At around 5pm yesterday, the scooter could be seen weaving in and out of traffic in a very low-speed chase by a police car with flashing lights.

In the video - which was shot by Timaru mum Aleisha Candy, who provides a compelling commentary - the man is clearly determined to escape.

A Police spokesperson told the Herald that they are aware of the incident and that no arrest was made.

"Police are conducting enquiries to establish the circumstances and will provide further updates when we are in a position to do so."
