Tom Cruise has just given us our first look at Top Gun: Maverick ... and it does not disappoint!
Releasing the official trailer for the Top Gun sequel at Comic-Con in San Diego today, the 57-year-old actor easily slid back into the role of Maverick - the cocky but talented pilot who plays by his own rules.
The trailer opens with stunning visuals of Tom manning an F-18 jet flying over a sandy desert, but doesn’t show off much of the story.
According to reports, the film will follow Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, who is now a flight instructor at the Topgun, as he teaches the son of his late partner, Nick “Goose” Bradshaw.
There are plenty of callbacks to the original film in the trailer as well — Cruise on a motorcycle, playing volleyball, and of course, flying fighter jets.
The Mission Impossible actor will star alongside Jon Hamm, Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller, and Ed Harris in the feature film, which is being directed by Joseph Kosinski.
The film comes 33 years after the original was a massive hit in 1986.
It is set to be released in New Zealand cinemas on June 25, 2020.
